Saving Money on Printer Ink Cartridges is Simple

Whether you have an office full of printers or just one with your home based computer, you know how fast that ink can disappear, and how expensive buying new ink cartridges can be. If you print a lot of color images or have children that just love printing almost every page they view, then that ink is gone in record time. However, there are a number of things you can do to conserve ink as well as money saving options to stop those replacement ink cartridges from taking a big chunk out of your wallet.

One of your first steps is to look at your printing habits and be aware of your printing needs on a project by project basis. Not every print job will require the same quality or the same amount of ink. For example, use draft print quality when printing anything for personal reference. Your document might print out lighter but it will be perfectly readable and your ink cartridges will last longer. If you’re just printing a page of text you can save ink as well by printing in black and white or grayscale.

Your ink cartridges will last longer if you proof read everything before you print. Remember that a spell check program can be your best friend when it comes to saving ink. A lot of ink gets wasted by printing pages to only discover your errors and having to print the whole thing over again. Also, before you actually print anything on paper, preview your page on the computer first so you can see what it will look like in printed form.

One big problem when printing from web pages is that you can also end up with all those little ads and sidebars that you don’t want and that is just a waste of ink. Try looking for the “print friendly” link on the page to display the content and avoid all those color ads. Use the page range ion to avoid wasting ink and only print the information or pages you need.

When it’s time to replace your ink cartridges consider purchasing generic brand cartridges. The best thing about a generic brand is the lower cost. They can often cost less than half than that of name brand cartridges and that can mean big savings over a short period of time.

We all know about the ink cartridge refill kits and have heard that they can be messy, but actually they are quite easy to use if you read the instructions carefully and take your time. You can get between 3 and 6 refills per kit and at a fraction of the cost of buying ink cartridges.

Remember when refilling your cartridge to refill before the cartridge is completely empty to prevent the chamber from drying out. Also, let the printer cartridge sit for a few hours which will allow the pressure in the cartridge to stabilize.

With the low cost of printers these days, the ink cartridges used over the life of that printer can cost many times over. While this makes perfect sense for the profit line of the printer manufacturers, it certainly doesn’t make sense for the consumer’s wallet. So. remember that you aren’t stuck paying those high prices when it comes to replacing your printer ink cartridges. You do have choices!
